LHC suspends PML-N workers’ detention

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday suspended an order of the Faisalabad deputy commissioner regarding the detention of 17 workers of the PML-N and sought a reply from the district government.

PML-N Lawyers Forum’s advocate Rafaqat Dogar challenged the detention orders, saying the government was victimizing the workers of the opposition parties to sabotage the upcoming rally of the Pakistan Democratic Movement in Lahore.

He argued that no curb could be put on the lawful activities of the political workers. The lawyer asked the court to set aside the detention orders for being unlawful.

Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Mushtaq suspended the impugned order by the Faisalabad DC and sought a reply by Dec 28.

Maryam: PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Friday held a meeting with the women lawmakers and wives of parliamentarians of the party at Jati Umra on Friday and asked them to actively take part in the campaign for the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to make it a success.

According to a statement, Ms Nawaz asked them to fully participate in the PDM’s rally in Lahore on Dec 13. “Women will have to play an active part for the progress of the country,” she said and added that women should be on the forefront in the drive against the PTI government’s bad policies that had made the lives of the people miserable.

Maryam Nawaz is also planning to address the party’s corner meetings ahead of the rally. She may address the PML-N social media wing on Sunday (tomorrow).

The PML-N has announced holding the public meeting at Minar-i-Pakistan but the government has not yet given permission for it. The PML-N insists that it would hold the Lahore rally at the scheduled venue at any cost.
