Grab a pack of dark chocolate and brew a cup of green tea because the latest research indicates these could help the body in its fight against Covid-19.
A team of plant biologists made this connection at North Carolina State University in the United States of America while researching how chemicals in food and drinks interact with the virus.
Various lab and computer simulations were run to measure the effect of the chemical compounds on the main protease enzyme of Covid-19.
De–Yu Xie, a professor of plant and microbial biology at North Carloina State said, “Green tea has five tested chemical compounds that bind to different sites in the pocket on Mpro, essentially overwhelming it to inhibit its function,” while chemical compounds in cacao and dark chocolate reduce "activity by about half".
