KARACHI, Jan 20: The city government’s education department has asked the principals of colleges and higher secondary schools falling under the administrative control of the city government to stop payment for the purchase of computers till a decision is taken on an inquiry pending with the City Nazim.

In a circular issued to principals of all the colleges and schools, EDO Education Prof Mazhar-ul-Haq stated that “with regard to the purchase of computers, the City Nazim, had taken a serious view of a probable misappropriation of college’s private funds”, hence payment of computers be deferred till the outcome of an inquiry currently pending with the City Nazim”.

Some senior officials of the City Government’s education department had purchased a large number of computers from a firm without seeking the consent of the City Nazim although the city’s 90 colleges and higher secondary schools have come under the administrative control of the city government in the wake of local government’s devolution plan.

Meanwhile, the EDO (Education) has convened a meeting of all principals of the city government’s colleges and higher secondary schools on Jan 24 to discuss various issues, especially the purchase of computers.
