HYDERABAD: Joint electorate welcomed

HYDERABAD, Jan 20: The National Commission for Justice and Peace, Hyderabad, held a thanksgiving meeting the other day at the St Francis Xavier Community Hall at the Tilak Incline to express gratitude to the federal government for the restoration of joint electorate system.

A large number of people from all walks of life including HRCP activists, councillors, and leaders of the Christian and Hindu communities attended the meeting in which the children sang patriotic songs.

Brother Philip Hira, S. Lal Ahuja, Ruffin Wilson, Ghaffar Malik, Ms. Nasreen Shakeel and Akhtar Baloch of the HRCP thanked President Pervez Musharraf for reintroducing the joint electorate system in the country as envisaged in the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan.

The leaders of the minorities said that it was indeed a happy augury that their dream had been translated into a reality and the discrimination between the citizens of Pakistan had been removed.

They also thanked the press for taking up the cause of the joint electorate system.—Bureau
