LAHORE, Oct 1: Governor Khalid Maqbool on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the Irfanullah Khan Centre for Intellectual Property and International Law at the Punjab University Law College here on Saturday.

The governor said safeguarding of intellectual property rights was the need of the hour and “we can’t progress without becoming a part of the international trade.”

Appreciating the contribution of Irfanullah Khan’s family to the project, the governor said he hoped that the centre would prove to be the best in the discipline in the country. He also commended the efforts of the varsity administration for promoting quality education and building new infrastructure for the emerging disciplines.

PU vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood said the centre would help safeguard the rights of writers, authors and creative persons.

Advocate Farrukh Irfanullah, a representative of the donors, said the building would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs2,500 million. He gave a briefing on the centre’s designing consideration, activity area and master plan.
