Talking to Dawn, chairman of the NED admission committee, Dr Mahmood K Pathan, said on Saturday that three engineering degrees in medical engineering, bio-engineering and automotive engineering were being introduced from the new academic session, commencing in January.

A total of 64, 32 each in five-year bio-engineering and medical engineering programmes and 35 seats in automotive engineering, a 4-year degree programme, have been allocated for admission, he added. The number of seats in the textile engineering department has been increased from 35 to 70, while in the industrial manufacturing programmes the increase was from 70 to 100 seats, he mentioned.

Unlike the past, students aspiring admissions would now be required to submit a single form for engineering, architect or BCIT programmes and they will not be needed to give their order of programme choices at the time of submission of admission forms.

The university will issue a provisional merit list of applicants, on Nov 21, following which students would be called for interviews and asked to name the study-programmes that they wanted to pursue at the varsity, he added, saying that the new method will allow a longer period to the applicants to think and decide about their engineering programme of interest.

He said that the varsity had also revised downward the fee structure pertaining to Bachelor of Computer Sciences and Information Technology programme. A total of 23 seats have been reserved for A-level pre-engineering and pre medical groups candidates, Dr Pathan added.
