Five ‘muggers’ held in Rangers-police joint action

KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, on Monday claimed to have arrested five suspects of a street-crime gang for their alleged involvement in several robberies in the city.

The paramilitary force and police jointly established a special team for the arrest of the gang involved in several robberies.

They carried out an intelligence-based action and arrested suspect Mohammed Asif alias Chita. His arrest was made with the help of CCTV footage of a robbery, said a Rangers spokesperson.

On a lead provided by him, the law-enforcers arrested four others, identified as Nisar Khan, Saeed alias Mighty, Runi Ilyas and Michael and recovered arms and ammunition from them.

The spokesperson said that the held suspects could be seen in the CCTV footage of a robbery carried out at a milk shop in Nazimabad in January.

“They were also involved in several other robberies,” he added.

They were arrested in the past but got released on bail and resumed their activities.

A Rangers statement said that efforts were under way to arrest remaining members of the gang.

Later, the held suspects were handed over to police along with seized arms and ammunition for further legal action.
