GUJRANWALA, Sept 30: As many as 62 councillors of Kamoki town union councils have not been handed over their identification cards an agent of a ruling party minister allegedly received the other day on their behalf.

The cards were issued by the election commission to cast votes in the third phase of the local election.

The councillors on Friday protested against grabbing of their identification cards and demanded that the election commission should help them recover the cards.

Reports said the chief election commissioner had directed the election commission to issue identification cards to the elected representatives following scrutiny of their records. Muhammad Arshad, an agent of Punjab Transport Minister Shamshad Ahmad, collected cards from the local election commission but did not hand them over to the councillors to compel them to favour the ruling party candidate for Kamoki town nazim seat.

An election commission official confirmed that the agent collected these cards after recording his signature. The cards would be taken back from him and handed over to the councillors concerned shortly, he said.

Bail cancelled: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 rejected on Friday the interim bail of 14 accused involved in firing at a Tetley polling station, manhandling the presiding officer and other staff and tearing the ballot papers during the first phase of the local election.

According to reports, several armed men trespassed on a polling station and created panic by tearing ballot papers and beating up the presiding officer and other staff.

Police arrested the accused after instituting a case, but they got the interim bail from a court.

Judge Mujahid Mustaqim on Friday rejected their interim bail after which the police arrested them and sent them behind bars.

HUDOOD CASES: The Gujranwala sessions court on Friday acquitted three accused involved in Hudood cases.
