LAHORE, Sept 30: The Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) has authorized its president Arif Nizami to nominate four members for the press council.
According to a CPNE press release, the decision was taken at a meeting of the standing committee of the Council held here on Friday with Mr Nizami in the chair.
The committee reviewed the situation of freedom of the press in the country and expressed satisfaction that a ban on government advertisements for the Nation and Nawa-i-Waqt dailies had been lifted. However, the committee expressed concern over advertisement bans on some other newspapers.
The meeting also decided to form a committee of former CPNE presidents and general secretaries to review the constitution of the council and suggest amendments to remove the ambiguities and anomalies.
