ISLAMABAD Sept 30: The Supreme Court on Friday overruled a verdict of the Peshawar High Court which had allowed Munawar Khan to contest the post of Lakki Marwat district nazim, and ordered the Election Commission to delete his name from the candidates’ list.
The apex court upheld the district returning officer (DRO)’s order whereby nomination papers of Mr Khan were rejected on the ground that he had not mentioned his total assets in the list he provided to the returning officer.
The high court, on an appeal filed by Mr Khan, a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) had rejected the DRO’s decision and upheld his candidature. Later, Mohammad Jamil, a rival candidate, had moved the Supreme Court against the high court’s verdict.—Staff Reporter
