Even after rehabilitation KCR will be of little advantage, says CM

SUKKUR: Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that work on the rehabilitation of Karachi Circular Railway is under way on court orders but Sindh government believes the project will be of little advantage because the fast-sprawling metropolis needs a modern mass transit system more than locomotives of 1960s.

He told media persons after offering condolence to senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah over the death of his niece here on Wednesday night that his government talked to the centre in this connection from time to time and appealed to it to extend support to the province for a project like the Orange Train in Lahore to facilitate Karachiites.

He said that the inquiry report on Safdar Awan’s arrest incident in Karachi did unveil those who were found to be creating differences between institutions. The provincial government’s probe report would also unearth more such elements who were still trying to drive a wedge between different state organs, he said.

Shah said that they were satisfied with the investigation made on the directives of army chief. PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had welcomed the report which cleared the mist and proved that the case lodged under section 506 pertaining to issuing threats was fake because the complainant was not present at the place where the supposed crime took place.

He said that a meeting held with regard to the Covid-19 situation 10 days ago decided that the government would implement all the steps suggested by doctors. Instructions had also been given to provincial task force to put into practice the experts’ advice, he said.

Shah expressed satisfaction over current law and order situation in the province and said that conditions were better in Sindh. “The government is constantly monitoring the situation and takes immediate notice of unpleasant incidents taking place every now and then,” he said.

There used to be unbridled lawlessness in Kashmore but his government brought it under control and restored peace to the restive region, he said, adding that everybody could feel the difference between past and present.
