KHAN Wahan is the second largest area of Taulka Kandiaro, surrounded by almost 20 villages, and is locally considered the hub of agri-business in Naushero Feroze district. Sadly, however, the entire area lacks even basic civic amenities.
There is only one basic health unit (BHU) in Khan Wahan that caters to almost 80,000 people. Even this BHU suffers from a shortage of doctors, equipment, paramedics and medicines. Owing to the prevailing conditions, the residents are forced to visit the Taulka Hospital, located more than 12 kilometres away, for all medical needs.
In terms of education facilities, there are only two schools that are functional, and they too lack qualified teachers and proper infrastructure. The provincial government had agreed to provide a library to one of the schools some 10 years ago. There is no progress on that front since the time the promise was made.
Besides, the streets are full of garbage, gutters routinely overflow and there is no functional drainage system. And, to make matters worse for the inhabitants, cases of snatching and armed robbery are common in the area.
The residents have filed various complaints with various administrative authorities, but all such pleas have gone unheeded.
