CHAGAI: The Frontier Corps (FC) on Thursday seized a huge quantity of opium when it was being smuggled to Iran.

According to an FC spokesperson, 290kgs of opium worth Rs17 million was found in a petrol can when FC personnel searched an Iranian vehicle near Mashkel in Washuk district. An SMG gun and some currency notes were also found in the vehicle.

He said when the personnel started to chase the vehicle near Mashkel the people travelling in it fled, leaving behind the vehicle.

The spokesperson said the FC would continue to take action against smugglers in the area.

In a similar action on Tuesday, the FC seized 300kg of opium in the same area.
