CHAGAI: The paramilitary Frontier Corps, south Balochistan, has confiscated a huge quantity of opium along with arms and ammunition in the Mashkel area near the border with Iran in Washuk district.

According to FC officials on Wednesday, the intelligence-based operation was conducted in the Thasoi Naala area, some 12km from the Pakistan-Iran border. A vehicle loaded with 300kg opium was heading towards Iran when it was impounded, sources said, adding the smugglers managed to escape.

The sources said the seized drugs was worth Rs18 million.

An investigation has been launched into the case.
