PESHAWAR, Sept 28: Wapda on Wednesday sought to reassure power consumers that it was working hard to restore uninterrupted power supply to parts of the NWFP following the collapse of two main towers on the double circuit transmission line near Tarbela.
An official statement said that a fierce storm and tornado caused the collapse of the towers on the 70-km long main transmission line near Ismailia on Swabi Road in Mardan.
It caused the disruption of power supply to consumers linked to Malakand, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Mardan, Charsadda and Peshawar power supply systems, said the statement,.
It said that steps had been taken to immediately restore power through alternative means and work initiated on emergency basis to repair the damage and install new towers.
The statement said that necessary equipment and machinery had been rushed to the site and engineers and technicians were working day and night to complete the repair work and restore power supply.
It said that while electricity was being supplied to the affected areas through alternative means, Wapda had been constrained to carry out load management on turn by turn basis due to heavy load on 11kv feeders in Malakand, Dir, Chitral, Swat, Mardan, Charsadda and Peshawar.
It hoped that in view of the work done so far, power supply was expected to be restored in the next four days.
