NAWABSHAH, Sept 28: Dozens of residents of Old Nawabshah staged a protest demonstration and observed a token hunger strike outside the press club against the management of Sakhi-Dattar cotton factory, on Wednesday.
The protesters led by Shah Mohammad Khaskheli, Naseer Ahmed, Sobho Chandio, Abdul Ghafoor and Mohammad Hassan were protesting against the factory management for spreading pollution in Old Nawabshah. They were carrying banners and placards and raised slogans.
They said that residents were being infected with TB, asthma and other respiratory diseases due to particles of cotton, coming out and spreading in atmosphere of the area. They said that several persons have died and poor residents spent thousands of rupees on medicines.—BoC
