Fireworks kill three

SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 27: Three children were killed on Tuesday when fireworks laying at the roof-top of a passenger bus exploded near Khanqah Dogran.

Reports said the bus was carrying a marriage party to Khanqah Dogran from Sheikhupura on Monday evening. Some guests had kept a bag of firecrackers on the roof-top of the vehicle. Near Khanqah Dogran some body threw a piece of cigarette on the bag as a result of which the fireworks exploded, injuring six children.

The explosion created panic among guests and they started jumping from the roof and got injured.

The injured were removed to Khanqah Dogran hospital. Three children identified as Ali Raza, Ahsan and Farman died in hospitals.

Khanqah Dogran police are investigating. gang smashed: Khanqah Dogran police have arrested five members of an inter-provincial car lifters’ gang, recovered 10 vehicles worth Rs5 million and a large quantity of weapons from their possession.

This was claimed by Nankana Sahib District Police Officer Tahir Alam Khan in a press briefing at Khanqah Dogran police station on Tuesday.

The DPO said the accused took away a car from Muhammad Rafiq at gunpoint in Khanqah Dogran police limits. After receiving information, two teams, led by SHO Chaudhry Iqbal and investigation cell incharge Rana Muhammad Ramzan, recovered the vehicle from near Ajnianwala and arrested Kashif Naeem and Aalam Ali alias Ayub.

On their identification, he said, the police raided an outhouse near Kalsian and arrested Imranullah Khan, Rehmanullah Khan and Farman Ali and recovered nine vehicles and arms from their possession.

The DPO said during preliminary interrogation the gangsters said that they were involved in the ‘business’ for the last eight years and sold the vehicles to one Saleem Khan in Meran Shah.

IGP Ziaul Hassan announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for Khanqah Dogran SHO Muhammad Iqbal, investigation cell incharge Rana Muhammad Ramzan, SIs Zafarullah Khan, Muhammad Ashraf, Malik Muhammad Akram, ASI Zulfiqar Ali and other members of the raiding party.
