PESHAWAR, Sept 26: A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor and advocate of the high court has been kidnapped. Saeed Akbar Afridi, who has been appearing in different cases of the NAB as prosecutor and high court lawyer, was kidnapped from the East-Cantonment police station area on Friday, his cousin Faisal Afridi told Dawn here on Monday.

He said the lawyer had been picked up along with his car. But his vehicle was later found in front of the excise and taxation department on Shami Road.

“We don’t know who kidnapped Saeed as his captors did not contact the family,” said his cousin.

He said the family, who also belongs to the remote Tirrah valley of Khyber Agency, had contacted tribal elders of the agency to find the whereabouts of the lawyer, but to no avail.

Mr Afridi said the family had an old enmity in the agency. “But we buried the hatchet a few years ago....We cannot blame them for the kidnapping of Saeed Afridi,” he maintained.—Correspondent
