PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has, in principle, approved a proposal to start evening shifts in two higher secondary schools of Shahpur and Lelonai in Shangla district and directed the authorities concerned for making necessary arrangements in this regard.

Chairing a meeting about the Elementary and Secondary Education Department here at the CM Secretariat, he termed promotion of education the top priority of his government, according to a statement issued here.

He said that all the available resources were being utilised to ensure availability of required facilities in the public sector schools across the province and improve their standard with the aim to provide quality education to the students.

Provincial minister for elementary and secondary education Shahram Tarakai, minister for labour Shaukat Yousafzai, minister for local government Akbar Ayub and officials of the education department attended the meeting.

The chief minister remarked that reform initiatives undertaken by the government in education sector were yielding results and standard of public sector schools was improving.

About the need for starting evening shift in the two schools of Shangla district, Mr Yousafzai told the meeting that due to the increasing number of students they could not be accommodated in the morning shift.

He said it was the high demand of local people to start evening shift in those schools to facilitate all the students to get admission and education in environment conductive for learning.

Keeping in view the difficulties being faced by the students, the chief minister agreed to start evening shift in the two schools and directed the quarters concerned for necessary arrangements in this regard.

The chief minister said that besides increasing the capacity of existing schools, new schools were also being established on need basis so as to ensure access of all the students to education in the province. He directed the relevant authorities to ensure timely completion of all the projects launched for standardisation of public sector schools and provision of missing facilities.
