‘Push for peace to continue’

ISLAMABAD, Sept 24: President General Pervez Musharraf has reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to continue playing its role for durable peace in the region and the world. He was speaking at a meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army, Lt Gen M.L. Agwai, who called on him at the Army House in Rawalpindi on Saturday. Matters of mutual interest and professional importance came under discussion in the meeting.

President Musharraf briefed Gen Agwai about Pakistan’s solid role in the war on terror, composite dialogue process between Pakistan and India, efforts for resolution of disputes and matters related to the army.

He said that Pakistan would continue to play its part in securing peace in the region and the world. “We are taking along the Islamic world,” he said.

The president noted that the settlement of political conflicts was a must to ensure durable peace in the world. The Nigerian chief of staff’s visit to Pakistan will help strengthen existing relations and bolster cooperation between the two armies.

The Nigerian chief of staff lauded the professional capabilities of Pakistan’s military and showed interest in the purchase of defence equipment.

Senior military and civil officers were also present on the occasion. —Online
