GUJRANWALA, Sept 23: A degree college in Gujranwala is one of many institutions in the province without basic facilities and resources. Established two years ago, the Government Degree College in Rahwali has been running in a rented building on the GT Road. Around 500 students of intermediate and graduation have to sit on the ground to attend their classes because of unavailability of furniture.

The college administration is learnt to have asked the students to deposit Rs300 each to purchase furniture and other requisites.

The administration claims to have sent memoranda to the education department time and again, seeking provision of college building and furniture but no progress has been made so far. It, however, made it clear that the students were not forced to deposit Rs300 each.

The parents of the affected students have protested against the department for not providing better facilities to the institution.
