Police say suspect killed two KDA officers for not getting ‘choice posting’

KARACHI: The New Town police on Wednesday registered a case against an officer of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) for his alleged involvement in killing two fellow officers inside their office at the Civic Centre on Tuesday.

The suspect also suffered wounds and was arrested by the police. He is currently under treatment at a private hospital.

Area SHO Safdar Brohi said that the murder case was registered against Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on the complaint of a brother of victim Mohammed Waseem Usmani.

KDA officials Waseem Raza, 53, Mohammed Waseem Usmani, 54, and Abdul Hafeez, 54, were shot at and wounded inside an office on the third floor of the KDA on Tuesday. They were taken to a private hospital where doctors declared Raza and Usmani dead. Hafeez got admitted at another private hospital where his condition improved on Wednesday.

Investigators said that suspect Hafeez killed both the officers and later shot himself with the same pistol.

SSP-East Sajid Amir Sadozai said that the motive behind the double murder appeared to be “illegal gratification”. He did not elaborate.

Woman, son die from electrocution in Korangi home

Another policeman, Husain Bux, said that the wounded suspect in his initial statement before the police had “confessed” to have killed the two officers.

The suspect told the investigators that he wanted a “right posting”, which was not given to him by the victim officers.

He said that it appeared that after killing both the officers, the suspect attempted suicide by shooting himself.

He said an initial probe revealed that he was not injured during the scuffle as he was sitting at some distance.

He suffered bullet wounds in the chest. The officer said that they would formally take him into custody for investigation when his health improved.

Robbers kill man upon resistance

A 34-year-old man was shot dead by armed robbers over resistance in Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) on Wednesday afternoon, according to police and hospital officials.

They added that Umair Javed drew cash from a bank and was travelling in a car when armed motorcyclists intercepted him at Korangi Crossing. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, the executive director of the hospital.

The victim suffered bullet wounds in the left side of his chest.

Area SHO Mohammed Nawaz Gondal said the suspects took away cash but the exact amount was not known.

Woman, son electrocuted

A woman and her young son were electrocuted in Korangi on Wednesday.

KIA SHO Gondal said that Zeeshan, 20, tried to run a motor pump inside his home in Allahwala Town when he suffered an electric shock. As his mother, Rehana Ramzan, tried to save her son, she also suffered shock and died.

The dead were shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Three held for assaulting woman

The North Nazimabad police arrested three suspects for allegedly assaulting a young woman.

The police said the suspects tried to rape a 23-year-old woman at her flat late on Tuesday night but her relatives saved her.

The police rushed to the spot after receiving information and arrested the three suspects.

A case (FIR 204/2020) was registered against them under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 337-A (i) (shajjah) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
