ISLAMABAD, Jan 19: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has allocated 150 beds to meet any emergency situation in the wake of border tension between India and Pakistan, it is learnt here on Saturday.
According to the arrangement, different number of beds have been fixed in various wards including pre-operative rooms, surgical-4, medical-1 and 2.
Earlier, in a meeting, Pims Executive Director Prof Azhar Mahmood Qureshi had asked the medical officers, in-charges of blood bank and different wards, doctors, pharmacists and paramedics to remain alert.
The staff on leave has been called back while it has been ordered that no one would go on leave till the present situation is over, sources said.
The sources further said the hospital management had also directed the in-charges/heads of various departments to admit only those cases which could immediately be discharged at the time of emergency.
“Directives have also been issued to arrange medicines, and make arrangements for the provision of diet to 125 patients on a day’s notice.”
In case of emergency, army authorities will be allowed to use the office of assistant director, located in the emergency department.
According to a recently-approved disaster plan, a committee has been formed to make available at least 20 bags of each blood group, set up blood donation centres and make arrangements in the blood bank to receive blood donations.
The committee has also been asked to ensure the availability of materials to be used in operation theatres.
The committee would be responsible for all rescue and recovery operations in case of emergency.
