LAHORE, Sept 20: Justice Muhammad Bilal Khan of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday summoned the FIA director-general to give an explanation on the conduct of an inspector, who is allegedly intimidating a person to withdraw a criminal case against him.
The FIA head has been summoned for Oct 25 in the proceedings of a writ petition through which Riaz Husain has contended that agency’s inspector Rai Abdur Razzaq has been coercing him to withdraw charges of fraud and cheating against him.
According to the petitioner, the inspector had promised him in September 2001 that he would manage to send his son Mazhar abroad for which he received Rs600,000. The inspector, he said, was now not returning the money and threatening him with dire consequences and forcing him to withdraw the FIR.
OKARA DPO: Meanwhile, Justice Sheikh Abdur Rashid directed the Okara DPO to register a criminal case of abduction and illegal confinement of a citizen against two police officials who also deceived a court bailiff.
The court instructed the DPO that criminal cases against ASI Muhammad Ramzan and constable Muhammad Mansha be registered and they should be arrested.
The court issued the orders in the hearing of a habeas corpus petition through which Jatti alleged that four policemen barged into her house and took her husband Hashim away along with cash amount and gold on Sept 12.
The court appointed a bailiff on Sept 15, who reported the following day that detenu Hashim was not found at the given location. The petitioner contended that the ASI and the foot constable had removed him to some other place.
The court summoned the DPO who stated that the detenu had been released. The court observed that it could be ascertained from the DPO’s statement that the ASI and the constable were responsible for illegally confining Hashim.—Correspondent
