Journalists for arrest of NLC men

FAISALABAD, Sept 20: The Faisalabad Union of Journalists has demanded police highups to take NLC personnel into custody who had tortured a news photographer. At a meeting held here on Tuesday with union president Mohammad Yousaf in the chair, the local journalists termed the incident a direct attack on journalism.

They noted with concern that the NLC personnel not only thrashed a citizen, but also tortured the news photographer which was a stigma on the face of the rulers, claiming to be champions of freedom of voice.

They said senior lawyers would be consulted and high police officials approached for the arrest of nominated accused in the case. If appropriate steps were not taken, the journalists community would protest on roads, they threatened.

Three days ago, some NLC men had tortured photographer Asadullah of a local daily, snatched his camera and threatened him with dire consequences for capturing pictures of those personnel who were beating a citizen.

A case against the NLC men was registered, but no arrest has so far been made.
