Child falls prey to kite string

LAHORE: The provincial capital police officials seemed helpless in controlling kite-flying related killings as another minor boy fell prey to this crime in the city.

The new incident occurred on Bund Road near Malipura when five-year-old Asghar was going on a motorbike along with his father. As he reached on Bund Road, string of a kite entangled around his neck and left a deep cut on his throat, a police official said.

His father initially remained unaware about the incident, he said, adding he came to know about the untoward happening when he noticed his son in a pool of blood in his arms. He rushed Asghar to a local hospital but he could not survive there.

According to the official record, the illegal kite flying has claimed lives of nearly eight people in the provincial capital during the last six months or so.

SHOT DEAD: A man allegedly shot dead his younger brother over a family dispute in Badami Bagh’s Mohallah Lohywali Pulli on Saturday.

A police official said Azeem had a dispute with his brother, Naeem, over a car that later led to a physical brawl between them.

On the day of incident, he said, Naeem shot at and injured Azeem and fled. Azeem was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police registered a murder case against Naeem on the complaint of his mother, Nasreen Bibi, with no arrest till the filing of this report.
