KARACHI, Sept 18: Former city nazim Niamatullah Khan has demanded that balloting of plots in Taiser Town be done through the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) and an honest officer be appointed to replace the project director of the Malir Development Authority (MDA).
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr Khan said that the federal government’s move of barring the sitting project director, Ameerzada Khan, from leaving the country was not enough as no proper action had been taken to get him dissociated from the MDA office which had been creating all sorts of speculation.
While MDA affairs are not transparent, the posting of the project director has further affected quality of development work, according to the former nazim, who advised senior provincial officials and the CM’s adviser on local government not to patronize corrupt colleagues. He stressed that in order to invoke transparency, the Taiser Town balloting should be done by Nadra, and apprehended that the plots, otherwise, could be allotted on political grounds.
He recalled that development work in Taiser Town, an old residential scheme, had been started during his tenure, and claimed that some provincial government elements were now trying to claim credit of the same through media.
He also demanded that Karachiites should also be provided detailed information about amenity and welfare plots in the town.
Speaking at a meeting of councillors and workers of the Al-Khidmat Panel in Landhi Town, Niamatullah Khan said he seeking another term of his office to complete the uplift projects he had initiated across the metropolis and to ensure the pace of progress of the country’s financial capital.
