KARACHI, Sept 18: Pakistan People’s Party has held the government responsible for the death of innocent children due to water contamination. Flaying the apathy of the rulers towards the problems of people, PPP leaders Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Mian Raza Rabbani, in their separate statements, observed that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz despite his presence in Karachi neither paid a visit to the locality, nor felt the need for visiting the hospital to inquire about the welfare of the affected people.

They regretted that no precautionary measures were taken and innocent children died of drinking contaminated water while many more were hospitalised where no proper attention was being paid.

They demanded an inquiry into the tragedy by a high court judge so that those responsible are given severe punishment.

They also called for paying compensation to the affected families and proper treatment to the hospitalised persons.

SENATE SESSION: Senator Nisar Memon, who visited the Landhi town dispensary and Sessi hospital on Sunday, told newsmen that the issue of water contamination would be taken up in the Senate session on Monday.

He said that he was concerned over deaths caused by water contamination in Karachi and other parts of Sindh, including Jacobabad. He said that he had earlier visited Korangi hospital to have an appraisal of the situation so that he could take up the issue in the Senate in an effective manner.

The senator also demanded a high-powered judicial inquiry to probe the causes of water contamination which led to several deaths.
