KARACHI: A suspected bandit was killed while his accomplice escaped after a shootout with police on University Road on Tuesday, police said.
They added that the gunmen were intercepted by a patrolling team of the Sachal police station on a complaint of some passers-by.
“The bandits riding a bike were intercepted near Jauhar Complex on University Road,” said an official. “Finding themselves trapped, they attacked the police. The retaliation from the police led to a shootout, in which one of them was killed while his aide ran away. The deceased bandit remained unidentified.”
Man electrocuted
A 45-year-old man died from electrocution in Korangi on Tuesday, police said. They added that Shahid, son of Taj Mohammad, met the deadly fate near Farooqi Ground in Korangi No 5 while he was passing through a street in the neighbourhood.
The officials were not sure about how it happened but said that he was found dead along the road where an electric wire was seen lying.
“The wire was not of any electricity pole but it seemed of an illegal connection that fell down due to rain,” said an official at the Awami Colony police station.
