PTI’s wing concerned over appointment of ‘outsiders’ as law officers

ISLAMABAD: The lawyers’ wing of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, commonly known as the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), appears to be perturbed over a proposal to appoint 12 law officers for the Islamabad High Court (IHC) from Lahore and from outside the party.

The Islamabad chapter of the ILF said that advisers of the federal government and Capital Development Authority were behind the proposal to de-notify the existing 12 deputy and assistant attorney generals, equivalent to BS-20 positions, to accommodate the ‘chosen’ lawyers for the would-be vacant positions.

The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) also issued a press release on Saturday against the proposed appointments and warned that the bar would not welcome the outsiders who would assist the judges of Islamabad High Court.

“It is to inform that the government is appointing law officers from Punjab, particularly from Lahore. Through this press release the government is warned to refrain from usurping the rights of the lawyers of Islamabad. We agitate explicitly, condemn strongly and consider it as an infringement of the rights of Islamabad-based lawyers,” the IHCBA said.
