Islamia Club bag women’s title

KARACHI, Sept 16: Islamia Club ‘A’ handed a 3-1 defeat to Jamia Millia ‘A’ in the final to clinch the women team title in the Karachi table tennis championship at their own premises on late Thursday.

Islamia Club ‘A’ and Sharfabad Club ‘A’ qualified for the men’s team final by winning their pre-finals. The former routed out Sunset Club ‘A’ 3-0 while the latter defeated Islamia Club ‘B’ by the identical score.

The boys and girls singles have also reached the final stage Ammar Arif is pitted against Usman Ahmed in the boys singles final. Ammar had the better of Umair Zafar 3-1 while Usman prevailed over Salman Shahid 3-1 in the two semifinals.

Maliha and Mariam Naz set a date to meet each other in the girls final. Maliha white washed Anam Saeed straight 3-0 while Mariam chalked up a 3-0 win against Shahpara in the semis.

Sobia Ahzaz and Aysha Khan will clash for the women singles crown after they qualified to meet each other in the final. Sobia struggle hard to beat Maliha 3-2 whereas Aysha overcome fighting Bushra Ahzaz 3-2.

Boys singles (quarterfinals): Usman Ahmed bt Bilal Khan 3-0; Umair Zafar bt Mustafa Jamali 3-2; Salman Shahid bt Abdullah Shahid 3-2; Ammar Arif bt Uzair Farid 3-0.

(Semifinals): Usman Ahmed bt Salman Shahid 3-1; Ammar Arif bt Umair Zafar 3-1.

Girls singles (semifinals): Maliha bt Anam Saeed 3-0; Mariam Naz bt Shahpara 3-0.

Women singles (quarterfinals): Sobia Ahzaz bt Nausheen 3-0; Aysha Khan bt Qurratul Ain 3-0; Bushra Ahzaz bt Tayyaba 3-0; Maliha bt Urooj 3-0.
