Abbas and Sajjad joint leaders

RAWALPINDI, Sept 16: Abbas Ali and Sajjad Khan emerged as the joint leaders with identical first round scores of three-under 69 among professionals in the COAS Open Golf Championship on Friday.

On the second day of the championship at Rawalpindi Golf Club, the events of senior professionals, amateurs of handicap 13 and above, senior amateurs and juniors were completed.

It was time for the main events of professionals and amateurs to get underway.

Ijaz Hussain with net score of 70 and Tariq Mehmood with a gross card of 76 led the field in the amateurs category.

The 36-holes ladies event of the four-day championship will commence on Saturday when a nine-hole game for the invitees will also take place.

Shaukat Ali won the senior professionals category with 36-hole score of 158 while Muhammad Shafiq and Iftikhar Ahmedfinished second and third respectively with scores of 160 each.

Idrees won the juniors net event with score of 136 while Hamza Ali captured the juniors gross event with 155.

Among amateurs with handicap of 13 and above, Cdr. Azhar Ahmed Finished on top with 145 and Rashid Malik in second place with 146.

In the same category, gross winner was Maqsood (177) while Jabbar ended up as runners up (181).

In the senior amateurs event, Lt. Col. (r) M. Jameel Khalid was the winner among gross scorers with 163, followed by Ejaz Saddozai (164).

Munir Chohan annexed the senior amateurs match with net score of 145 while Tariq Afridi (150) was runners-up.—APP
