California Governor Gavin Newsom has said that hospitalisations due to Covid-19 have gone up by 44 per cent over the last two weeks, CNN reported.

He added that the number of patients in intensive care units (ICUs) have gone up by 34pc. The total number of cases in the state has risen to nearly 290,000.

Newsom said that the state was averaging more than 100,000 coronavirus tests per day and the seven-day positivity rate stands at around eight per cent.
