SARGODHA, Sept 14: Anti-corruption judge Shaukat Ali Khan on Wednesday awarded 17-year imprisonment to newly promoted DSP Malik Ashraf for allegedly misappropriating trees from the compound of Kirana police station and the adjoining land of one Muhammad Afzal. Reports said Mr Afzal had filed a complaint against Malik Ashraf, alleging that during his posting as SHO about four years back, he had illegally cut trees from the compound of Kirana police station and his land. A departmental inquiry in this regard had exonerated him from the charges.

Later, Muhammad Afzal filed a complaint with anti-corruption judge who awarded Malik Ashraf 10-year imprisonment under Section 409 of the PPC and seven-year under Section 5 of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Malik Ashraf had recently been promoted to DSP rank and was temporarily working in city sub-division.

On the orders of the court, the police have taken him into custody. — Correspondent
