No heatwave in city: Met dept

KARACHI: Despite scorching weather on Wednesday, the city is not currently experiencing any heatwave and the temperature is likely to drop slightly in the coming days, said a Met department official.

“The city is not under any heatwave as its temperature is likely to drop on Thursday and Friday. A heatwave occurs when the temperature of a place remains five degrees above its monthly average temperature for five days consecutively or at least for three days. In that case, it’s called a mild heatwave,” explained Met department spokesperson Sardar Sarfaraz.

Its high humidity ranging between 50 per cent and 60pc combined with high temperature that made people feel that the weather was very warm, he added.

According to him, the maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 40.1 degrees Celsius and it’s likely to be one or two degrees less on Thursday and Friday, though hot and humid weather conditions will continue to prevail in the city.

“City’s temperature is likely to get pleasant from July 4 onward with cloudy weather conditions and resumption of sea breeze,” he said in reply to another question.
