Former chief editor of Hilal-i-Pakistan passes away

THATTA: Former chief editor of Sindhi daily Hilal-i-Pakistan and founding member of Thatta Press Club, Nawaz Ali Memon, passed away after a prolonged ailment here early on Thursday. He was 80 and is survived by a daughter.

The veteran journalist who went by the alias Nawaz Chand among his friends received a presidential award for his extraordinary work on national and provincial issues and played a pivotal role in establishing Thatta Press Club in coordination with his colleagues about 40 years back.

He started his career with Hilal-i-Pakistan as district reporter and reached its top post of chief editor over a period of about five decades. He enjoyed close relationship with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, his family and leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party.
