ISLAMABAD, Sept 10: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said more development funds will soon be allocated for the uplift of Rawalpindi. He was speaking at a reception hosted by MPA Raja Rashid Hafeez for PML candidates for the slots of district as well as town nazims, Raja Javed Ikhlas and Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, respectively.

The information minister said if both candidates were elected to the posts they would help bring in a new era of development in the city through their dedication and spirit for service to humanity.

The reception was also attended by Provincial Minister for Law Raja Basharat, MPA Rahat Qudoosi, MPA Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, MPA Samina Jadoon, tehsil nazims, naib nazims and a large number of councillors, PML workers and activists.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said land for Gawalmandi girls college had been acquired at a very low cost and Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi would soon lay its foundation stone.

He announced that efforts were in hand to install water filtration plants along with tubewells in the city.

He said efforts would also be made for providing stipend and more powers to women councillors throughout the country.

The minister said people had rejected land grabbers and gambling mafia during the recent local government elections by electing their candidates. He said the new district government of PML candidates would serve the people of Rawalpindi by eliminating corruption and corrupt mafia of contractors. He said they would ensure their all time access to their councillors and help them in ameliorating grievances of the common man.

Mr Ahmed pointed out that opposition had miserably failed to nominate their candidate and a person who was rejected by them as deadwood was being nominated by them.

Speaking on the occasion, Raja Basharat highlighted the need for launching a massive campaign for service to humanity.—APP
