UNHCR launches emergency cash programme for refugee families

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is handing out Rs12,000 to 36,000 refugee families in Pakistan, a press statement said. The money is being distributed in collaboration with the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions and Pakistan Post.

The cash assistance programme will help refugee families that have been hit hard by the economic slowdown caused by restrictions imposed to curb Covid-19.

“This is a significant event for the emergency cash programme that will continue over the coming months. Together with the Government of Pakistan, we must make sure that we ‘leave no one behind’ during these difficult times," the press release quoted UNHCR’s Representative in Pakistan, Noriko Yoshida as saying.
