No shortage of ventilators in Pakistan at present, 20% of ICU beds being used: NDMA chief

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal says no city in Pakistan has so far used more than 50 per cent of the ventilators set aside for the Covid-19 health crisis.

Addressing a press conference, he said if the situation "continues to remain bad", the country will likely require 2,000 ventilators for coronavirus patients, preparations for which have been made.

He said there is no shortage of ventilators at the moment while only 20pc of the total capacity of ICU beds is currently being used for Covid-19 in hospitals.
