United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has said that the planet was "paying a heavy price" because of some countries, who ignored the World Health Organisation's advice over Covid-19.

"Different countries have followed different, sometimes contradictory, strategies and we are all paying a heavy price," he said in his opening remarks ahead of WHO's first virtual assembly.

He did not specify which countries he was referring to.
