House collapse, mudslide kill six in Buner, Bajaur

BUNER/KHAR: Three people died in two house collapse incidents in Buner and two women and a girl were killed by mudslide in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur tribal district the other day.

In Buner, Mst Faree, 30, and her son Usman Umer, 4, died when roof of their mud house collapsed due to heavy rain in Kulyari area of Gagra tehsil.

Local residents retrieved the bodies from the rubble. A large number of people participated in the funeral prayer held on Friday morning. They demanded compensation for the affected family.

In the second incident, 12-year-old Hasan of Maradu Chaghorzai died and his father Wahdatullah, 50, suffered injuries when roof of their mud house collapsed due rain after Taraveeh prayers on Thursday night.

The victims include three women and as many children

In Khar, two women and a girl lost their lives in a mudslide when they were collecting mud in Kitkoot hilly area of Mamond tehsil.

Officials and residents said the incident took place in Kitkoot locality, 18km North West of Khar, the other day.

They said that a group of women and girls of the area were busy digging a mound of mud in the locality when it caved in, trapping two women and a girl, while others remained safe.

After hearing cries of the women the people of nearby locality reached the spot and started recue work.

After an hour of efforts, the two women and girl were recovered in critical condition and taken to the district headquarters hospital, Khar. However, they succumbed to their injures before getting any treatment.

The residents identified the victims as Amina Bibi, 35, Taja Bibi, 33, and Wajiha Bibi, 13.

The residents complained that Rescue 1122 or any other government organisation did not visit the area to participate in the rescue work.

Meanwhile, an official of the administration told this correspondent that the victims were bringing mud to repair their homes when they met the accident.

He said Nawagai subdivision assistant commissioner Habibulah Khan Wazir on Friday visited the house of bereaved families. He said that compensation packages would soon be given to families of the victims.
