India reviews issue of detainees

NEW DELHI, Sept 6: India on Tuesday began a review of all arrests made in occupied Kashmir under two anti-terror laws in keeping with an assurance made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his talks with Hurriyat leaders.

An official spokesman said the home ministry had initiated the process of reviewing the cases of those held under detention.

The home ministry had “accordingly advised the government of Kashmir to examine the cases and make their recommendations at the earliest for the consideration of the joint screening committee,” the spokesman said.—Online
