In the morning, floral wreaths were laid at the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on behalf of the armed services. Later, a Fauji mela was held at Old Race Course Ground, which included a grand display of armaments and equipment and thrilling events.
Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Syed Athar Ali was the chief guest on the occasion. Latest missiles, tanks, guns, helicopters and armament under the use of Engineers, Signals, Electrical and Mechanical corps and Army Air Defence were put on display.
Arrangements were made to acquaint public about the equipment and weapons through briefings and video films on various aspects of military life.
Darbars were held in the army units while bara khana was arranged for the troops. A get-together of retired and serving officers was also held at 5 Corps Officers Mess in the evening.
Pakistan Navy observed the Defence Day with traditional solemnity to pay tribute to supreme sacrifices of its martyrs.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were held at all PN ships / establishments.
An inter-collegiate bilingual declamation contest was held at PNS Rahbar, which was contested by the students of various colleges. Similar contest was also held at Bahria College.
The Maritime Museum remained open to visitors from all walks of life. A large number of people visited the museum throughout the day. —APP
