KARACHI: A sessions court has granted pre-arrest bail to Nadir Gabol, son of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nabil Gabol, in a case pertaining to allegedly injuring a lawyer by reckless driving.
Police booked Mr Gabol for hitting and injuring 31-year-old motorcyclist Haroon Khalid in DHA Phase-VIII on April 3.
The suspect had moved an application with the additional district and sessions’ judge (South) seeking bail before arrest in the present case.
The judge granted him bail subject to furnishing a surety bond of Rs20,000 with the direction to cooperate with the police in the investigation.
Earlier, defence counsel Liaquat Ali Khan mentioned in the bail application that the complainant levelled false allegations against his client as there was no eyewitness of the alleged incident.
He said that the applicant apprehended his arrest by the police and argued that since the sections mentioned in the FIR were bailable, his client may be granted pre-arrest bail.
According to the contents of the FIR, the complainant said that he tried to cross a jeep, which had tinted glasses and no registration number plate, driven by Nadir Gabol, on 26th Street on April 3.
It further mentioned that the four-wheeler suddenly took a left turn, hitting his motorcycle and sped away.
The complainant claimed that he received injuries to his shoulder and on his back besides damaging his motorcycle.
A case was registered against Mr Gabol under Sections 337-G (punishment for hurt by rash or negligent driving), 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Sahil police station on the order of the court.
