KARACHI, Sept 2: Pakistan Steel (PS) edged out PTCL 5-4 on penalty strokes to win an exciting final to capture national junior hockey title on Friday at Faisalabad Stadium.

According to the details received, the final ended 1-1 in the mandatory time, taking the match in extra time which also failed to break the deadlok.

Both teams adopted defensive strategy in the extra time and did not concede any goal as the match went in penalty stroke stage.

The thriller did not ended as in stipulated five penalty strokes, both the team scored four goals each and the final eventually was decided in the sudden death penalty shoot when PS goalkeeper saved one attempt.

Yaseen Malik gave early breakthrough to the winning side in 11th minute on a penalty corner which was neutralized by Inayatullah, just two minutes later for the losers on a solo effort goal in the first half of the match.

Earlier, Pakistan Customs secured third position by beating NBP 4-2. Imran Junior and Shafquat were the heroes for the Customs as both strikers scored two goals each.

Yasir and Tauqeer were the two goal scorers for the bankers. Pakistan Customs were enjoying the lead of 2-1 at the breather.

Favourites NBP had one reason to smile as its striker Hasim Khan was named Man-of-the-Tournament.—PPI
