Research suggests that lockdowns and social distancing have slowed down the spread of Covid-19 and thereby flattened the curve. However, experts say that while case numbers are not increasing as fast as they were in the US in March, they are not decreasing either.

According to online publication Vox experts say that there is still uncertainty over how well the social distancing orders are working and have expressed concerns about whether the plateauing of case numbers in the US is actually a good sign.

They have suggested that lockdowns be lifted in phases, "see whether the virus is circulating or not, and then ease them a bit more".
