ISLAMABAD, Sept 1: As many as 93.5 per cent of 76,520 households have expressed dissatisfaction over the police services in both rural and urban areas of the four provinces, says a survey report.
The report, Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement Survey (PSLM), a copy of which was obtained by Dawn, covered 76,520 households in urban and rural areas of the four provinces to solicit common man opinion about government services — police, school, basic health unit, family planning and veterinary hospital.
The survey showed that across the four provinces only 6.49 per cent of the sampling households were satisfied with the performance and services of the police department.
The PSLM survey was conducted by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the first ever survey in Pakistan’s history on the topics. When households were asked to give their opinion about the facilities and services provided by the government, only 5.61 per cent were satisfied with the police services in the urban areas of the four provinces. Of these only 4.13 per cent of the households in the urban areas of Punjab showed satisfaction, followed by 5.92 per cent in Sindh, 7.87 per cent in the NWFP and 10.98 per cent in Balochistan, respectively.
In the rural areas of the four provinces, only 7.16 per cent of the households were satisfied with the police services. Of these only 5.09 per cent of the households in rural Punjab expressed satisfaction over the police services, followed by Sindh, 7.98 per cent; Balochistan, 8.17 per cent and the NWFP, 9.92 per cent.
