Hill torrents wreak havoc in Namal valley villages

MIANWALI: Torrential rain on mountains in the Namal valley invoked hill torrents here on Wednesday.

The locally known torrent Tarapi wreaked havoc around Dhurnaka village by inundating standing crops of wheat over hundreds of acres. The wheat crop which was to be harvested in a few days was destroyed. Many farmers were seen crying over the crop damage.

The gushing water of hill torrent nullah Tarapi entered Dhurnaka village and caused problems for people to come out of the village to reach the local dispensary.

Because of the coronavirus fear after the emergence of 18 cases in the district, people with cough or flu symptoms have to visit the nearest available medical facility.

The inhabitants of Dhurnaka village have been left stranded in their houses while some mud houses also collapsed.

Dhurnaka is very well-known village of the Namal valley as several high-ranking army and civil officers belong to this area.

The village falls in the constituency of Prime Minister Imran Khan and the people are waiting for relief. They demanded that the area be declared calamity stricken.
