First coronavirus death in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The first death from coronavirus has been reported in the federal capital.

A foreign national, who was put on a ventilator due to complications after she had contracted Covid-19, breathed her last on Monday.

Pims media coordinator Dr Waseem Khawaja, while talking to Dawn, said the patient used to work in a foreign international airline as an air hostess and had contracted the virus.

“Later, the victim’s husband was also confirmed with the virus but he fully recovered. The body has been sent to the mortuary and proper arrangements would be made for the burial so that no one would be infected,” he said.

Dr Khuwaja said, as per standard operating procedure, the deceased was removed from the ventilator for some time to see any improvement, but there was no improvement in her condition.

He said that deceased was in the isolation ward for the past few weeks.

Islamabad deputy commissioner Hamza Shafqat, in a statement, said that one female patient from Rawalpindi in Pims had died. “Her corona test was negative more than a week ago. She died of other complications. Her husband had also contracted corona but he recovered,” he said.

It is worth mentioning that earlier a woman had died at Shifa International Hospital but the Deputy Commissioner had claimed that as woman was shifted from Rawalpindi so it should be considered as a death of Rawalpindi rather than Islamabad.
