KARACHI, Aug 30: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman has taken notice of public complaints regarding additional amounts of money being charged in some government-run schools.
While taking notice of additional Rs250 to Rs510 in the name of different funds being charged in class VI to X in the government-run schools, the chief secretary asked the education department to take action under relevant rules and regulations and submit a report about the same within a week.
He directed that an inquiry be conducted against schools whose names appeared in the press.
The chief secretary said the amount so recovered should be refunded to the students while action must be taken against those involved in the irregularity.
He also expressed concern over the deaths of people due to the intake of contaminated water in Essa Nagri, Lyari, Gulbahar and other areas and sought report from the provincial secretary health, secretary local government, DCO Karachi and MD KWSB in this regard.
The chief secretary directed the health secretary for the provision of better medical facilities to those affected by the intake of contaminated water.
He asked the concerned authorities to ensure supply of clean and safe drinking water to the people. The people were also advised to take boiled water.—APP
